Three steps, one of them in your old app.
Export from your old app
Each app hides its export in a different place. The steps for each one are below.
Pick the file in Pensum
Open Settings, tap Import data and choose the app you're coming from. Select the file as it arrived, whether that's a ZIP, an .xlsx or a few CSVs. You don't need to unzip anything.
Check the preview
Pensum shows how many days, entries and weigh-ins it found, and which days it will skip, before a single row is written. Confirm, and your history is in.
How to get your export, app by app.
What to tap in your old app, and what arrives in Pensum.
MyFitnessPal
Export- In MyFitnessPal, open Settings, then Data Export.
- MyFitnessPal emails you a ZIP. On their side, the export is a Premium feature.
- In Pensum, pick that ZIP.
One total per meal per day, because MyFitnessPal's export has no food-by-food breakdown. Your weigh-ins, in kilograms or pounds, whichever your account used. Exports in German and other languages import too.
Cronometer
Export- Sign in at cronometer.com and open your account's Export Data page.
- Export Servings, plus Biometrics for your weigh-ins. Daily Nutrition is optional.
- In Pensum, pick the CSV files together.
Every serving, food by food, with its calories and macros, in the meal group you logged it in. Weigh-ins from Biometrics. Daily Nutrition fills in any day the Servings file doesn't cover.
MacroFactor
Export- In MacroFactor, open More, then Data Management, then Export Data.
- You get one .xlsx file.
- In Pensum, pick that file.
Every food from your Food Log with calories and macros, sorted into meals by the time you logged it. The 17 micronutrients Pensum tracks, wherever MacroFactor has them. Your scale weigh-ins, without the smoothed trend weight.
Lifesum
Export- In Lifesum's settings, request a copy of your data.
- Lifesum emails you a ZIP.
- In Pensum, pick that ZIP.
Every food item with its calories and macros, in its meal. Your weigh-ins. Lifesum's export has no time of day, so entries arrive without one.
OpenNutriTracker
Export- In OpenNutriTracker, open Settings, then Export / Import App Data, and export.
- Choose JSON if you want your weigh-ins. The CSV export leaves them out.
- In Pensum, pick the ZIP.
Every logged item with its calories and macros, worked out from the grams you logged. Weigh-ins from a JSON export.
Your Pensum diary stays as it is.
Days you already logged are skipped
If a day already has entries in Pensum, the import leaves it alone. Two diaries are never merged into one day, and the preview tells you how many days that affects.
Your weigh-ins are kept
When a date already has a weigh-in, yours stays. If an earlier import brought in wrong weights, the preview offers Replace existing weigh-ins so you can overwrite them.
Half-logged days stay out of your trends
Days under 500 or over 10,000 kcal are imported but excluded from trends and the expenditure estimate, so a dinner you forgot to log years ago can't drag your numbers down.
Imported lines are totals
Each line keeps its name, calories and macros. Grams and serving sizes stay behind, since old exports don't record them reliably, and imported lines stay out of your food search. Importing the same file twice adds nothing new.
“A great alternative with a beautiful UI! I was looking for a better macro-tracking app, as I had been using Cronometer, and I definitely found it here. ... I've switched over completely.”
Import questions.
Which apps can Pensum import from?
MyFitnessPal (the export ZIP), Cronometer (the CSV exports), MacroFactor (the .xlsx export), Lifesum (the data export ZIP) and OpenNutriTracker (the export ZIP, JSON or CSV). Pick the file as it arrived; there is no need to unzip it.
Do my foods and grams come over?
Each imported line keeps its name, calories and macros, in the meal it was logged in. Grams and serving sizes stay behind, because exports don't record them reliably. MyFitnessPal's export only has one total per meal, so that is what arrives. Imported lines stay out of your food search.
What if I already logged some of those days in Pensum?
Those days are skipped, never merged, and the preview tells you how many. Weigh-ins you already have are kept. If an earlier import went wrong, tick Replace existing weigh-ins in the preview to overwrite them.
Does importing cost anything?
No. Imports are part of the free plan and never use an AI action.
Does imported history count toward my expenditure estimate?
Yes. Imported intake and weigh-ins feed the expenditure estimate like anything you log in Pensum. Days under 500 or over 10,000 kcal are imported but left out of trends and the estimate, since they are usually half-logged. How the estimate works.
What if my file won't import?
The import sheet offers to send a report. If you agree, the export files go to the Pensum developer with the error details, are used only to fix the importer, and are deleted within 90 days.
