Changelog

Every release of the Android app, newest first.

Pensum ships an update most weeks. What people write in after using the app goes straight into the next release. There is no committee between a report and a fix, and no ads team whose numbers need feeding, so what goes into a release comes down to whether it makes tracking better.

15 releases Jul 14 to Sep 15 Latest 1.20.1

September 2026

1.20.1

One meal, up to five photos

A meal photo can now be up to five pictures, from the camera or the gallery, so a plate and its sides count as one meal. Describing a meal in words, without a photo, has its own entry in the + menu.

  • Quick add takes a name for the entry.
  • Pin protein, fat or carbs to your own number and the other targets keep adjusting.
  • Everyone gets 30 days of unlimited AI actions from this update before the monthly allowance starts counting.
1.20.0

Targets that follow your expenditure, and Pensum Plus

Daily targets now update from your measured expenditure by themselves, and the weekly check-in is gone. Every target shows where its number came from. Manual mode freezes all four.

  • Ask Pensum questions can carry a photo, and Apply on a proposal works as soon as the card appears.
  • The portion stepper takes a typed multiplier, 2.5 included.
  • Tracking stays free and complete, adaptive expenditure included. AI actions (meal photos, label scans, recipe imports, micronutrient fills, Ask Pensum) come with 30 each month on the free plan.
  • Pensum PlusNew adds unlimited AI actions, a daily cloud backup on EU servers, and missing micronutrients filled in as you log. File backup and CSV export stay free.
1.19.1

A ring calendar, one expenditure chart

Picking a day opens a calendar that draws each day as a ring of what you ate against that day's target. Partly logged days are dashed and excluded days are marked.

  • Expenditure and the energy balance chart are one region on Profile, with one chart and a tappable legend.
  • The 1W / 1M / 3M range button follows you down the page.
  • Weekly weight change sits on the weight card, next to your target rate.
  • Fixed three crashes: certain barcodes, leaving the home-screen widget, and leaving the diary mid-load.
1.19.0

Better search, and a basket for logging several foods

Search corrects typos, knows other names for a food, and ranks the foods you have logged before higher. 4,544 foods that were English-only now carry German names, and every result list ends with a row that searches Open Food Facts.

  • Selected foods collect in a basket where you re-weigh or remove them before logging, and it stays open while you search or scan the next one.
  • Ask Pensum keeps conversations on your device and can propose a goal, targets, a recipe or a meal as a card you accept or decline.
  • The serving stepper goes below one portion: ½, ⅓, ¼.
  • A weigh-in history by month, with tap to correct and long-press to delete several.
  • Long-press a meal header to copy that meal to another day, or clear it.
  • Fixed a calorie target that could drop overnight and drift back.

August 2026

1.18.0

Expenditure you can watch arrive

While your measured expenditure is still calibrating, the chart shows a preview and the diary counts down the days until it lands. A partly logged day now counts as a miss, and the card names those days when they are what holds the measurement back.

  • Recipe ingredients open the full log sheet, and every ingredient row shows its calories.
  • A taller home-screen widget with fiber and sodium under the macros.
  • Tap a serving size to turn it into a counter for two or three of something.
  • Long-press an entry to copy it onto any day, tomorrow included.
  • Fixed: a food with macros but no calorie value was left out of the day's total, and current MacroFactor exports failed to import.
1.17.0

Five ways to log from one button

The diary's + button opens search, barcode, photo, voice, or describing the meal in words. The log sheet offers the amount you last used for that food, ahead of the serving sizes.

  • Saved meals can be edited after you create them.
  • A Today button on every other day, and a bigger date tap target.
  • Swipe to change day can be switched off in Settings.
  • OpenNutriTracker import joins Cronometer, MacroFactor, MyFitnessPal and Lifesum.
  • Editing a custom food asks whether the correction should reach entries you already logged.
  • Fixed scale readings above 1000 losing their decimal.
1.16.0

Profile rebuilt, targets from lean mass

Everything from the separate Insights page now lives on the Profile tab under one timeframe selector. Protein and fat targets scale with fat-free mass instead of total bodyweight, which fixes the odd numbers an aggressive cut at a higher weight could produce.

  • Custom foods can be edited or deleted, and per-serving values typed into per-100g fields get caught before saving.
  • Average fiber, free sugar, saturated fat and salt on Profile. Sugar in fruit and plain milk products no longer counts against you.
  • Ask Pensum can see body fat, saved meals, recipes, favorites, logging times and alcohol.
  • Fixed phones set to an unsupported language starting up in German.
1.15.0

Ask Pensum, favorites, multi-add

A chat that reads your diary, trends and targets and answers in plain language: why the scale won't move, where your protein days fall short. It sticks to how your numbers work and points anything medical to a professional. Your data is only sent when you ask.

  • Star a food to give it a place on its own favorites list, with a favorites-only filter in search.
  • Tick several recents or favorites and log them in one go, each at the grams you last used.
  • Search results print the real brand name.
1.14.1

One-tap portion sizes everywhere

Tap "1 slice" or "1 cup" and the amount fills itself in, on every screen that asks for grams. Portions come from USDA data and from the pack for barcode products. For German and Swiss staples, 361 portions were added by hand, each from a published source such as the DGE and SGE guides.

  • Define your own portion on any food, up to four per food.
  • Custom foods take all 18 vitamins and minerals, per serving or per 100 g.
  • Supplements fit as custom foods: name the portion "1 tablet" and type the doses as printed.
  • Scan a nutrition label without a barcode, straight from the custom food sheet.
  • Egg portions use edible weight now, not in-shell weight.
1.12.0

Lifesum import and swiping between days

Hand the Lifesum export ZIP to the importer and your logged days arrive with their original food names and macros, weigh-ins included. In the diary, drag sideways to change day.

  • Photograph a pack's vitamin and mineral table to fill it into the food. The values also go back to Open Food Facts.
  • Say or type a recipe's ingredients and they are added in one go.
  • Weigh-ins can be filed on past days, and deleted with undo.
  • An optional daily reminder that stays silent on days you have already logged.

July 2026

1.11.0

Search results show their data source

Each result names its database (BLS, USDA, Swiss, or your own) and how many of the 18 tracked vitamins and minerals it carries. When a food appears in several databases, the better-covered entry wins.

  • Recipe micronutrients are built from their ingredients instead of an AI guess at the whole dish.
  • Fixed barcode scans from the home-screen widget not logging the product.
1.10.0

Home-screen widget and a projected goal date

Today's calories and macros on the home screen, with shortcuts into search, barcode, voice and photo logging. Set a goal weight and the trend line extends at the pace your weigh-ins show, with the date you would get there.

  • Six more micronutrients (B1, B2, B6, niacin, iodine, selenium) bring the total to 18.
  • Free sugar is judged against the WHO ceiling once enough of the day is covered.
  • "These numbers look wrong" on scanned products walks you through re-scanning the label.
  • Faster startup, diary and Health Connect sync. The site download dropped from 85 MB to 30 MB.
  • Pensum is on Google Play.
1.7.1

A diet quality page

A third diary page gauges fiber, sugar, saturated fat and sodium against WHO and DGE references. A value is only judged once enough of the day's food reports it. Tap any value to see which foods drive it.

  • Voice logging no longer freezes when the speech engine fails, and shows a live waveform.
  • Quick add works out calories from macros unless you type your own.
  • The 3-month chart's 7-day average centers on each day.
1.5.3

Log a meal by talking

Press the mic and say what you ate, with amounts. What you say is matched against your foods and the database, then lands in the same review step as a photo, so you correct it before it goes in.

  • "Estimate missing micros" fills blank vitamins and minerals. Measured values stay untouched and the estimated share is marked on each gauge.
  • A new look across the app: flat sections, tick gauges, ledger rows. Every screen and action stayed where it was.
1.2.4

Import your history from another tracker

Bring your diary over from Cronometer, MacroFactor or MyFitnessPal. A few imported weeks mean your measured expenditure is calibrated to you from day one instead of running on a formula.

  • Imperial units throughout, defaulting to your locale.
  • The expenditure card charts its history and counts the days until it is measured.
  • Logging coverage as a rolling 28-day view that never resets.
  • The weight card draws the trend line over the raw weigh-ins.
